Prof. Mark Stevens receives 2026 RASE Award

Congratulations to our very own Dr Beet, Professor Mark Stevens, on winning the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE) 2026 Science & Technology Award in recognition of the impact of his research and scientific leadership on the UK sugar beet industry.

“For over three decades, Professor Stevens has combined internationally recognised scientific leadership with an exceptional commitment to translating research into practical solutions for farmers. This has enabled the development of evidence-led approaches to complex crop protection challenges, including the responsible use of neonicotinoid insecticides,” said judge Dr Becky Wheeler of Future Biogas.

Mark has not only led world-class research that has helped shape the future of sugar beet production, but has also been a tireless advocate for ensuring science delivers real benefits on farm. His ability to bridge the gap between research and practice has earned the respect of growers, researchers and industry colleagues alike.

Beyond his scientific achievements, Mark is widely admired for his professionalism, integrity and generosity. A supportive colleague, inspiring leader and genuine pleasure to work with, he has mentored countless individuals throughout his career while bringing enthusiasm, humour and a collaborative spirit to everything he does.

This prestigious award is a fitting recognition of Mark's outstanding contribution to the industry and of the lasting impact he continues to have on UK agriculture.
