Landfill is becoming increasingly expensive. This project assessed the impact of the use of paper pulp on sugar beet.

Plant population

Plant growth and appearance

Nitrogen requirements

Adjusted root yields

  1. No extra nitrogen was required when beet was grown following paper pulp application
  2. No benefits of paper pulp on the growth or quality of sugar beet were evident
  3. Additional nitrogen application (permitted following paper pulp application) did affect beet yield and quality.
