AphidWatch
BBRO AphidWatch
BBRO's 2026 AphidWatch and Yellow Water Pan networks ceased on the 2nd of July.
Most sites in the network had reached the 16+ true leaf stage where it is no longer necessary to apply an aphicide. Sites where the crop was this developed are marked by a purple marker. Most other sites either were not reporting any presence of aphids, or very low numbers (below threshold).
It is believed that the migration of Myzus persicae is complete and beneficial insects and the plant's own resistance mechanisms will control any remaining aphids on most crops. However, remain vigilant and protect any crops which are less developed (i.e. two stage emergence).
Continue regular observations (20 plants/field, 2x a week) to see if/when your crop reaches the threshold for treatment with an aphicide: 5 aphids per 20 plants <12 true leaves, switching to 1 aphid per plant between 12-16 true leaves.
Comply with all timing application restrictions on any product labels. (e.g. Sivanto Prime must not be applied after 13 July)
